Description

“Boeing Boeing” is a farce, set in the 1960’s, in Bernard’s apartment near Orly airport, Paris.

Bernard is very fond of air hostesses, particularly those on long-haul flights, so much so that he is engaged to 3 of them, all different nationalities (American, Italian and German). He likes to keep “one up, one down and one pending”. That is, until bad weather and the introduction of a faster aeroplane bring all three to Paris and Bernard’s apartment at the same time.

Bernard’s friend Robert, who is visiting, becomes reluctantly involved in the ensuing chaos, together with Bertha, Bernard’s long-suffering housekeeper, who, as events spiral out of control, decides she’s had enough and threatens to leave.

This play won 2 Tony awards in 2008, one for Best Revival of a Play and the second for Best Actor in a Play for Mark Rylance. It originally premiered at the Apollo Theatre in London and subsequently ran for 7 years.
